QRCode Readers

Yesterday, I had fun with QRCode readers (see http://www.denso-wave.com/en/adcd/product/ ). One module of my application reads QRCodes and yes it was really fun testing my module as it works. I find it really interesting to program with other devices not just keyboard and mouse =)

Adobe InDesign

Today I was assigned to create a quickstart manual for our new software. Now I'm using Adobe InDesign to do the job. It's nice and easy to use. I had experiences using Aldus Pagemaker before, which was adopted by Adobe and became Adobe Pagemaker and now known as Adobe InDesign... hmmm those were the days I was the layout artist of our school organ =)

It's lunch break and yes, I have nothing to do but to surf the net. Just had an "Obentou" お弁当, a japanese word of saying packed lunch. They are really good and here in our company we have to types "Healthy" and "Unhealthy?" I guess hahaha... No both are healthy the only difference is the amount of servings. :)

TAKOYAKI Thursday!

Octopus ball or what you call TAKOYAKI in Japanese term is one of many popular dumplings here in Japan. TAKO = means Octopus while YAKI = means to grill or to bake. That is how takoyaki is made of. While posting this blog entry I ate already 10 dumplings and there are 2 more left... anyone care to join me??? :P

I took a shot of it. The ingredients are: chopped boiled octopus, benishoga (pickled ginger), chopped negi (scallions), tenkasu (rice crispies). While the batter or toppings are: powdered katsuo-bushi (shaved dried bonito) and konbu (kelp). Plus a takoyaki sauce and mayonaise.

Some students here in Japan, especially the male high school students hangs out in takoyaki shops after school hours.

And talking about school hours, I'm back to school! I started my class course in KUMON just today. The japanese language class I attend to is from 7:00pm to 9:00pm (every Mon & Thu) kinda late, so when I came home tonight nothing for diner, so what did I have?! the picture above. ^_^

Level 3 of Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT - 3Kyuu)

A call... last Sunday night when I got a phone call from a friend (Indonesian) I met in JLPT test site in Tokyo. He called to announce that the result of the JLPT is out already. He passed the exam and asked me this way "Joel san wa dou, goukaku shita?" ("So how about you? Did you passed?")... In silence I am not able to answer for a while... I wanted to answer yes... but... I answered no... He then asked "Doushite?" ("Why?")... I took a deep breath and aswered "Coz the result hasn't arrived yet...! " :P

My mailing address was in Tokyo and as I am working right now in Kyoto I didn't have any idea what my score or if I passed... But deep inside of me God has assured me that I passed... So this morning while checking my mails, unsurprisingly I got this email from my Boss written this way:

You passed the exam with 331/400 points. Congratulations! -- Yusuke

What!? I did not even have the opportunity to open the result myself... having those chills and thrills of excitement... :D Oh well, can't help it... So what I did is hold my breath for a while... and close my eyes uttering this words:

Thanks God for letting me pass this test, for assuring me that I'll have this. Amen.

Painted with happy face, I worked all day filled with energy. After work I called KUMON (Japanese Language Class Course) that I am ready to take the next step toward Level 2 (2-Kyuu)... I am ready to take the business level challenge the Japanese way!

Snow Drop!

Today I woke up late around 10:00am and to my surprise my supervisor in Software Dev. Team called me for an adventure up north Kyoto. What is it you may ask? A skii adventure in Kurama Skii Jyou =). So I quickly arranged my stuffs and around 10:30am we travel up north. Snows were really thick and flakes were dropping on our way to Kurama Skii Jyou and I was really amaze how strong the houses near the village as their roof were covered by big/thick amount of snow. And to add also the trees and hills of mountain surrounded by these white flakes. I imagined our car getting inside the freezer =).

So around 1:00am we finally arrived, and had some lunch for a couple of minutes and after that the adventure begins...

Lot of teenagers are into snowboarding especially this month until March, I did not had the chance to try it as I did not have my own stuff but I got the chance to slide using snowboat! :) I'll post the picture here later.

I had a great time with my Supervisor and his family. We also went shopping, where I bought a new telephone unit and then around 6:00pm I'm home.

I really wanna comeback and try snow boarding! ^_~

ASDL + IP Phone

Hooraaayy!!! I got my Fujitsu W4 IP Telephone & ADSL Router!!! ^_^ Does it mean I will be able to surf online 24hours a week?? Yeah! In fact right now as I post my entry this is the connection I am using. I also tried downloading some big files around 180MB and it only takes me less than an hour yipppeee!!! And uh oh! I think I need to reformat my harddrive as the space really small I need to free unused files.

One great thing about shared ADSL and IP Telephone is that I got a 1mbps DL (download) and UL(upload) plus a free call anywhere here in Japan if the person also uses an IP Telephone =) . Right now I can't see any drawbacks from this package I subscribed into, but once there is I'll share it with you guys ^_~...

Hello my fellah readers! Today was the usual day, wake-up early in the morning, buy breakfast (Royal Milk Tea + Apple Pie) at Lawson on my way to work and yepz! 8 hours of sitting in front of computer... I accomplished one project by the way today and I got a new one at the end of day ^_^.

After work, I read atleast few pages of the new books I have, and yey! I'm on the 2nd chapter of Code Complete and it's getting more interesting.

And by the way, I got my new telephone-line installed here in my dorm. Yipeee!!! next will be the installation of my internet ADSL connection. I no longer have to write my blog offline :D.

I think I need to reformat my PC as preparation for non-stop downloads and stuff fufufu... :)

2 New Books

Yepz! As the title says it all, I got 2 new books I bought from Amazon.com. The books arrived this morning and excitedly opened it up fresh from its package. The books are as follows:

CODE COMPLETE 2nd Edition by Steve McConell

Algorithms for Image Processing and Computer Vision

Right now I am into image processing and I think these 2 new books will help me speed-up my learning. I already read the 1st chapter of Code Complete and tomorrow will be another one and another! :P

A whole day of relaxation

Holah! I had a great Saturday ^_^. I did woke-up early unexpectedly at around 9:00AM then do some exercises and later on had my breakfast and lunch ready. Yep! I cooked a lot today, it made me bloated! :P Then while having lunch I watched the movie "COLLATERAL"... not my type of movie but its nice. And yeah yesterday I watched "BIG FISH", it's so good I found myself crying at the end of the movie. Watch it and you'll know why.

And yeah, later afternoon I slept again hahaha! :D Then when I woke up I just visit the bookstore near my place and bought a magazine that will be one of the resources Otakuzine will be using. :)

Around 7:00PM to 9:00PM I called lot of friends in Tokyo and Isezaki. They seem to be doing well, though there are somehow some issues that needs to be taken care of. I am also concern on how my fellow Engineers are doing that is why I like them to have the nice job as much as possible they can have.

Oh well, talking about job career, I wonder what is in store for me this year 2005. I haven't thought much about it but I think I need to brush things up and plan well for this year. :)

Indeed, this day so far has been great, I'll eat dinner now and get my life runnin' back into the real world. Bloggy now signing off! ^_~

Year 2005 Welcome Party

Thanks God it's Friday!!! ^_^ I can sleep till afternoon tomorrow yey! Today we had a dinner at the company celebrating this year's welcome party. The dinner was good, lot of sushis!!! :P The welcome party was somehow held to strengthen unity and teamwork in every each department . Our team which is the "Software team" have tons of projects to work on so I guess we've better do this party everytime to further strengthen our team hehehe... :D

Also today I had a small chat with Yuka. She seems to be doing well and I am glad to hear that. She also told me that her friends visited her place at Eugene, Oregon all the way here from Japan... wow, that's so nice of them :)

For the site updates I am thinking of moving my Blog into blogspot, doing things in dynamic manner. (Sheesh! see my post last Jan. 18, 2005 :P). Now I am preparing the template I'll be using.

So that's all for now, I'll watch some movies tonight and have fun! Enjoy your weekend!!!

Otakuzine

Today I got an offline message from a friend (one of the founders of Anime-Club) and they're planning to publish new magazine entitled Otakuzine. I got few details within the day and somehow I might be able to contribute atleast a little help with the publication of the magazine. The release date is still unknown though. So for those of you who are collectors of Questor magazine wait for this one as it seems to be a promising mag when it comes to new anime on air.

Okay so let's go back to the construction of my playground, I did add new page that is, "Dreamland" page... I just don't know if I need to publish it publicly but what I can say is "wonderful!" as I am able to record from now on the dreams I'll be having for the year 2005 yey! ^_^.

So I'll get back to work with the other pages of this site and expect more to come. Bloggy now signing off!

I'm working on some of my playground's pages, including this one. Had finished the HOME section. Hoooray!!! *Throw confettis in the air* hahaha... it reminds me of those times I used to spend my time chatting on mIRC (Inter-relay chat) where I always use those phrase whenever it calls for celebrations. It was few years ago when one of my buddies whose name is Nick and I created different channels in mIRC. During those times, I remembered doing massive invitations using bots to market our channels ^_^... And there I met some of good friends like Ral, Kim and Christia... oh! and that's what you call memory flashbacks hehehe...

Well then, I think it's time to do other pages. I might as well listen to my MP3 collection while working... *shameless plug* Friends by Mike Francis cool! d^_^b

MySQL Japanese Support

Today I had to fix a small glitch cause by unmodified file settings of my.ini setup file... Here is the modified settings for MySQL database to support "Shift_JIS" encoding:

[WinMySQLAdmin]Server=C:/mysql/bin/mysqld-nt.exe[mysqld]default-character-set=sjis

[mysql]default-character-set=sjis[mysqldump]default-character-set=sjis

Take note that you can use the winmysqladmin.exe to edit the my.ini file.

Non-Stop Learning...

I was supposed to get my suit/tuxedo today, but unfortunately no one is available to come with this day so I decided to get it tomorrow... I spend much my time today in the house, self-studying about IBM's websphere I am reading an online book right now that is quite long, imagine 1144 pages!? wahhh, and i'm on the 50th page now ^_^ ehehe, you don't expect me to read the whole book page-by-page do you? Anyways, it is quite fun for me and I'm enjoying coz I am learning new stuffz again ^_^. Hmm so what else, oh! I watched Pokemon Japanese series just this afternoon, its quite great coz the opening and ending songs are both in Japanese soundtracks and the dubbing in Japanese language really gives the Pokemon much expressive in a battle, the episode is about the grand tournament of all Pokemon trainers.

Okay, GTG I'll catch up on this later ^_^...

Ho hum... same as yesterday, I stayed the whole day and late afternoon when I fall asleep -_- I was kinda tired and need to have a rest... just this night I talked to my younger brother together with our parents in YM, cool thing I enabled the voice conference so they had a great time listening to my voice, wehe! its like I'm a DJ on a FM radio station ^_^ silly me. I am the only one that have the headset so its a one-way call, I just read there response through chat... And yes! I remembered I cooked for lunch and dinner a salmon fish that I just recently bought from Jusco, its quite big so I saved some for tomorrow and next, next day ^_^... okay its gettin' late now, time to sleep... goodnight! ZzZzZz...

Ondokai!!!

Not much happened for today, its holiday here, official Ondokai day and my employer together with his family visit their parents somewhere here in Oita, its a 1 hour and 45 minutes drive, a province in their description. What I did is just continue with the website prototype, and I cleaned the house ^_^ pretty good for me, coz I need some exercise. After that I take a bit of rest late afternoon and now here I am watching Detective Conan while writing this one... well I won't make my notes long for now, need to watch carefully here the Detective Conan series, its quite difficult for me to understand coz its Nihonggo, but the series here are up-to-date, I also watched Inuyasha before Detective Conan... well that's it for now. Good night!

Homesick?! Nahh...

Its been a week now that I'd stayed here in Japan, ^_^ I'm happy that I never felt homesick thanks GOD. Okay so I forgot to write about what happened yesterday, hmmm.. okay let me refresh my memory, oh, alright early morning yesterday nephew of mr. Fujimura (sorry forgot his name, I guess "Nishi"?) and Noda-san visited the house to talk about the project, I didn't participate much but I think they are doing good at their projects.

Late afternoon when we go to NTT DoCoMO to look for some keitai, all we just did was inquired for keitai that can be used for international calls specifically in asia & Philippines, all things goes well and after that I bought some uniform, and waaahhh its really too expensive, don't wanna talk about the price but em glad that I have one pair of suite to use now, i.e., Tuxedo and Pants ^_^.

Okay so what happened for today, okay early morning when we went to Yukari's school to attend "Odokai" it was there Sports Day in school so I have a great time watching the programs/events in the school, it end-up before lunch then we proceed to Joyfull Restaurant to take our lunch, nice lunch we have there ^_^ (*bloated*) hehehe. We went home afterwards to take a rest. And btw we visited some stores that sells CD, VCDs, and DVDs, I saw some anime and hentai ^_^ but it was expensive for me so I just ended up staring at them hehehe ^_^.

Well that's all for today, its already very late at night, again for tomorrow... ja ne!

I'm an Alien!!!

Again I missed writing what happened yesterday so I'll make it up by writing it today... ^_^ yesterday when Mr. Fujimara came in to my house we went first to Japanese Government to arrange my Alien Card, imagine!? I'm an alien!!! wehehe... kidding aside we went to Kitakyushu to arrange my medicare and after that we went to Nakatsu to visit Mr. Fujimura's brother and at the same time the office there, I came in to his brother's house who welcomed me warmly together with his wife. They have this business of cooking and delivering sashimi, they insisted me to eat but we are catching time so instead I just drink there Japanese version of Yakult ^_^... after that we went home. And btw, as we were travelling we passed by Beppu City which is known for their popular hot springs, from there I've been able to see smokes coming out on every mountain we passed by, cool! I mean hot isn't it? ^_^... well that's it for yesterday I'll try to write again this evening before I go to sleep about today... c yah!

Ohayou! Minasan... hehehe i forgot to write about the happenings yesterday, ^_^ silly me... niway here is a quick pick... yesterday (Oct. 10, 2002) I got the chance to ride the bus here, of course it wasn't my first time to ride a bus but it my first time to encounter their process of payment and how to get the ticket, plus knowing which number of bus to ride in a bus station, it's quite amazing knowing that each bus here having there own destinations have there scheduled time for that day, there schedules can be seen at the bus station, so I need to be very careful in choosing which bus to ride on, but it was really easy and I think I'll be able to learn it in no time. Their process here in riding a bus goes this way, first you'll enter at the back door of the bus and there is a slot-machine where I could get my ticket and then at every station of the bus we encounter, a recording machine tells all the passenger that we are reaching this destination, etc. now if I were to go down at that station there is a button beside my seat that I'll be able to push on to initiate that I am going down on that station ^_^ cool isn't it? Then I'll walk towards the front of the bus paying the exact amount displayed in the LCDs of the bus (the basis of the amount that will be payed is based from the ticket that I hold, there's a number on it and I'll be able to see from the LCD my number, plus the exact amount to be payed), then exit the front door... I just always remembered things this way when riding the bus... entrance = back door, exit = front door ^^;

Okay so I am thru with the bus, so where I am heading? Weee!!! to Oita Central, I got the chance to go to CentPorta (pronounced as CentoPorta) one of the shopping districts here in Oita, visit this website to see some of its highlights http://www.city.oita.oita.jp/en/tourism/kanko_aruku_shoteng_c.html, I also visit some other malls have my lunch in one of its food chain, then look for some "keitai" (pronounced as "keitay"), this is there term for cellphones, I haven't seen Nokia models but its kinda different coz what they have here are JPHONE, AU, etc... I think there system of receiving and sending calls here are quite different plus the services providers also has a certain radius. The ketai looks good and they are colorful as if they look like toys, the screen also is colored and they are compact ^_^. Oh btw, I met a Japanese Girl at the perfume stall and she asks me what I can say about there country, I say that it was great, and then asked me how about the girls? Hehe I answered KAWAII!!! hihihi the Japanese girl really smiles and clapped her hands because of what she heard... she's very kind, she even let me try there perfume, and she is the one who sprayed it to my arms, cool! Oops! someone is ringing the bell outside, I think Mr. Fujimura is already here, got to go!

Konbanwa!!! ^_^ waiii... I had a great time today, first we went to Yukari's school (Hanagishi Oita), its so nice to see that all the kids here are well-disciplined and btw Yukari is my employer's daughter who is in kindergarden level... Yukari's school wasn't that big though but beside it you'll be able to see the elementary school with the medium-sized big-clock at the center (imagine the anime highschools) of the building, we walked Yukari home but before that we went to the park, its called ____ and the place was really pretty :) seeing all the birds (doves) walking towards us to ask for food, gee they are really lovely... the park is quite long and at the center of the park there was this shrine-like figure that displays a clock (its like a small-tower clock) and the interesting part is that when it reaches 2:00pm its like a robot that will pull-out some dolls out of it and let them dance ^_^ its kinda hard to explain but lucky me hihihi I got a souvenir pic that timely it was 2pm so I catched the dolls dancing within that small-tower, the dolls are dressed in kimono, etc... I'll post the pic here as soon as I developed it ^_^. After that we track and walk our way home, I got the chance to visit some of Oita's shops/stores, this includes Sega World, Olympus, etc... before we go straight home, we dropped by to McDonalds to buy some snacks and saw some Jap Girls again wahihihi, there uniform are really so short O_o and I like it ^_^ hehehe jk! (*grins*) I also got the chance to meet one Filipina there her name was Emilie, I got her number and she told me that if I wanted to attend to a mass in a catholic church, I just give her a call and she'll show me the way and give me a ride ^^; (*whew*), so generous, I wonder why ^_^. Okay so we got home, and from here I ate the burger and what else oh yeah, get back to my work ^_^. Its already late at night, I enjoyed designing our web page, ho hum... time to sleep, that's all for now... ja matane!

Garbage Collection

Not so much to write for today, except that I learned that every tuesday and friday I need to take out my trashes because the garbage truck is scheduled at this days. I stayed all day here at the staff house creating some draft logo designs for the company. I'm getting dizzy now, so maybe I'll take a rest for a while, bye... :)

Japan! Japan!

Wow! There are so much to write for today... I am watching Detective Conan while writing this one ^_^. This morning when I woke-up the gentle and cool breeze really makes me feel like its already christmas here (*hehehe*). At the veranda of our staff house, I just observed that all Japanese girls and gals really do ride bikes as they go to school, and here is the interesting part, most of their bikes are modelled like the old-one chinese era ^_^, but basically it really looks like it is built for girls, they really look-like girl type bikes ^^;... and smile! wehehe, I'm also going to ride the same-type of bike ^^; bwahahaha!

For today I enjoyed setting-up my workstation and in the late afternoon we just dropped by to Jusco (a Japanese Department Stores here in Oita) for me to learn to buy some stuffs like food to cook, drinks, etc. Cool, they really are very friendly, plus seeing all the junior highs Japanese Girls playing around the arcades ^_^.

I just bought Omochi (rice cake), that I am now eating and Taiyaki (fished-style bread). When I am at the Jusco Games and CDs department I just saw the prices of XBOX, PS2 and GameCube ewww... I just can't take away my eyes staring at them, if I wont control myself I'm going home empty handed of my yens... good for me that its getting late at night by that time so my employer and I went home. Oops! and btw I also been standing for a long time there staring at the huge models of Gundam Suites... arrrrggghhh I want to buy them!!!!
Oh, its 8:17pm already, 3 D.Conan episodes had passed... I am getting starvin' need to cook, I'll try to sneak peak some of my experiences yesterday upon my arrival here in Japan... of course after I have my dinner ^_^ so bye for now. ja!
